What Is Pain? Introduction
Pain can be physical, mental or emotional. Physical pain is a basic necessity for the body. Just imagine, if we could feel no pain in our body we might accidentally hurt ourselves or start styling our faces, hands, and legs the way we style our hair today!
Actually, pain is a letter of request, written by the body to the mind, saying, 'Please pay attention to me!' because attention is energy. When attention is given to a particular area, that attention becomes energy for that area. When the body communicates pain, it is actually asking for attention or energy, which will help it heal. Mental or emotional pain is the psychological feeling that arises when you are faced with something you don't like.
Research shows that emotional pain can deeply disturb the physical body. For example, the psychological feelings that arise with sexual repression can result in lower back disorders, or the pain of shouldering too much responsibility can cause pain in the shoulders. Whether the pain is physical or emotional, an important thing you need to understand is that pain is always born from resistance to the present moment.
What Is Pain Body ?
Every time we experience pain, it leaves behind some residual feeling that remains stuck in the body. This accumulated pain creates a negative energy field around us, which we call the 'pain body '. The pain body not only stores, but also starts reproducing many different kinds of pains. Again and again, we share what we create. That's why if wealth is created out of a pain body, we transfer the pain body along with the wealth to the next generation. Wealth should be created just out of a relaxed and blissful mood. Then the wealth can be enjoyed by the person you pass it on to.
The pain body constantly attracts the same kind of people and situations that make you feel hurt. By the very law of nature, you attract similar situations in your life. What you think, you create in your life as reality. So the more pain you harbor, the more pain you attract.
Body?
Allowing the pain body inside you is like allowing the ghost to live inside you. You will not know why you are doing what you are doing. Otherwise, why will you steal in your own house and destroy your future? Pain body takes away your intelligence. Pain drains your brain. Your pain drains your brain, and trains your heart to be in more pain.
The Law Of Life Regarding Pain
Pain cannot be driven out of your system by attending to one part of you. If you have knee pain you attend to that, it will become stomach pain. If you have stomach pain, you give medicine and do what you want, it will become neck pain. If you drive that also out, it will become back pain. If you drive that also out, it will become a headache. pain cannot be attended to partially. That is the law of life.
The Science Of Pain Existing In The Body
Any attempt to attend to the pain partially leads to more and more powerlessness. For example, For some people, first they try to give medicine to the stomach pain; then when it becomes a back pain, they try to give medicine for that; then it moves to neck pain, then they give medicine for that; after two-three years, they start living with the pain! They start living with the pain! It is now almost like they are experienced; pain becomes their life and experience.
What Happens To One When The Existence Of Pain Becomes Immune To Their Body?
If you settle with pain, you age in such a bad way, pulling, pushing, and dragging .Completing with pain; you will age very gracefully. Completion with the pain body is one of the basic requirement for any adult.
What Happens When There Are Incompletions In Your Pain Body?
When there is incompletion in your pain body, continuously you will be so agitated, the whole day you will be running here & there, literally like a headless chicken.
Completing with the pain bodies is almost like completing with all the wounds you created while you started living with incompletions. Because of the root, leaves grow, because of the root patterns, pain grows. You have to complete the root and complete the leaves. Your words are the seeds which puts more and more incompletion in others. So, you have to complete even with that.
Understanding about pain and cause of pain is the only way of conquering pain. Conquering means to have or not to have, create or not to create, to inflict or not to inflict on somebody. If you master all these 6 dimension only then it is called as conquering. Otherwise it cant be called as conquering. Conquer pain through Understanding.
15th Sutra, 2nd Chapter
Parinaama Tapa samskara dukhaihi guna vrutti virodhath cha dukham eva sarvam vivekinaha to the discriminating viveki, naha all is as it where is painful because everything brings pain either as consequence or of anticipation of laws of happiness or of fresh craving arising out of happiness and also because of gunas contradicting one another
Patanjali says everything is painful for an intelligent person. Why? If you have a painful especially, fear it will come again, so it is pain. Even if you have a pleasure especially, fear that you may lose it, or craving you may need it again & again creates pain. Apart from that, all these 3 gunas are constantly fighting. Patanjali almost gives you a powerful method of stopping your mind. He is not saying get depressed. No. All Patanjali is saying is stop the hope.
Be hopeless the only way to hope. Be hopeless that is the ultimate that can happen in you. Always all hopes lead u to hopelessness. Because by nature, hope leads you to hopelessness. No other way.
Everything brings pain – Vivekananda says as consequence or anticipation of loss of happiness. Pain is pain. Even if you have joy, fear of losing or craving to have it more & more it will bring pain. If you have pain, it is pain. If you have pleasure, either fear or craving is pain. If nothing happens also, these 3 gunas (attributes) sitting inside will be fighting with each other. That is also pain. Then what to do?.
Swamiji says: "the ultimate life is when you are just hopeless. Completely hopeless. Stay always in bottom, then nobody can push you!"
Do not cling to life because life is suffering. That is what Buddha means when he says life is suffering. The 1st step to start spiritual journey is be hopeless. Everything will create joy in you.
take complete responsibility to dissolve the pain
I N T R O D U C T I O N
Every time we experience pain, it leaves behind some residual feeling that remains stuck in the body. This accumulated pain creates a negative energy field around us,which we call the 'pain body '. The pain body not only stores, but also starts reproducing many different kinds of pains. Again and again, we share what we create.
.That's what I always tell people that if wealth is created out of a pain body, we transfer the pain body along with the wealth to the next generation. Wealth should be created just out of a relaxed and blissful mood. Then the wealth can be enjoyed by the person you pass it on topThe pain body constantly attracts the same kind of people and situations that make you feel hurt. By the very law of nature, you attract similar situations in your life. What you think, you create in your life as reality. So the more pain you harbor, the more pain you attract.
Goal :
Taking complete responsibility to dissolve pain
Assessment:
- v Ask questions related to the topic and questions about previous classes.
- v Who can tell me what the emergency call of the body is?
- v What is phantom pain?
- v How do we invite pain to our bodies?
- v What does 'bruised ego' mean?
- v Does our inner space feel pain? What can we do when we feel pain?
When we drop our ego and go beyond pain, we won't get 'hurt' , we will only learn, grow and expand. Conclusion:
Art Of The Day: Designs Or Patterns
MATERIALS NEEDED: Paper, pencil, paint
Procedure
---- Instruct the children to draw any design or pattern that crosses their mind. Encourage them to color the designs or patterns with nice poster colors.
Interpretation:
Pain follows a particular pattern, negative thoughts creates pain Their inner space can be expressed and revealed through the art that they create. Their inner thought flow really creates the patterns and designs that they exhibit.
Materials Needed:
strong smooth rope
Procedure
Have two children try this activity. Each takes one side of the rope and wraps it around their hands. Make a line between them and at the count of 3, they both start tugging the rope. Once either crosses the line between them their turn is over. Ask them to both focus while they are playing the activity and after. When they focus their attention, the pain disappears.
Awareness during pain frees from pleasure and pain.
I N T R O D U C T I O N
When you understand that pleasure and pain are both creations of the mind, you will realize that they are both temporary, they come and go like soap bubbles. Nobody is needed to take away your pleasure, because your mind by its very nature will move like a pendulum to the other extreme called pain.
The only way is to go beyond both pleasure and pain. This doesn't mean suppressing pleasure or forgetting about pain. It is an awareness that transforms pain to bliss which is the energy that exists no matter what the external situation may be. Bliss is your very nature and cannot be lost. Just because of your resistance to what is happening, you feel pain and your natural bliss is forgotten.
Like darkness, pain, whether it is physical, mental, or emotional, has only a negative existence . Darkness exists only in the absence of light. As such, it has no positive existence of its own. In the same way, pain exists only in the absence of awareness. Just as darkness disappears automatically when light is brought into a room, pain dissolves automatically when the energy of your awareness is focused on it.
Goal :
To cause in the child a powerful relationship with pain and how to bring awareness and transform it to creative energy.
Assessment:
- v Who can tell me what the emergency vehicle of the body is?
- v What activities have we done for pain?
- v How did you feel after doing the activities? Which was your favorite activity?
- v How has it helped in your life?
- v Why we say pain has a negative existence? When does pain exist?
Conclusion:
Pleasure and Pain are creations of the mind. They do not have positive existence. They have negative existence. Both disappear when looked in with Awareness
Materials Needed:
Paper, pencil or sketch
Procedure
---- Encourage children to draw the outline of specific structures and ask them to color the outline using sketch pens.
Interpretation:
Pain is the outline of our mental setup. When we create a positive mental set up we will be happy and we will enjoy pain also without resisting it.
Activity Of The Day
MATERIALS NEEDED Paper, pencil or sketch
Procedure:
Have all the students lie down in a comfortable position and explain how we are going to freeze our bodies in order to remove pain. Tell them to be frozen solid, not moving a muscle and visualize each area freezing completely. After they have finished ask them how they feel.
Interpretation:
Pain is the outline of our mental setup. When we create a positive mental set up we will be happy and we will enjoy pain also without resisting it.
Workshop Of The Day
pain questions
I N T R O D U C T I O N
You undergo suffering in many situations, maybe when you fall ill, when your neighbor gets a new car, when your loved one leaves you, when your boss fires you, or when you lose some wealth. Suppose you decided to welcome these situations just as they are without anger or resentment. Would you still suffer as much? No! But you don't manage situations that way. When your boss yells at you, you feel pain.
The pain could have been either because he scolded you in front of everyone, because you feel bad for having fallen short of your boss's expectations at work, or because you feel you didn't deserve the scolding.
Sit by yourself and think honestly about what the reason is. If the pain is due to him scolding you in front of everybody, then the pain is actually a hurt to your ego. Ask yourself, 'So what if everybody was watching? Why have I invested so much in what others think of me? Why can't I have my own gauge to measure myself? 'Ask yourself these questions. You will realize your investment in other's opinions of you is not worth it. Your pain will disappear!
If you experience pain because you did not perform to the best of your ability, become intensely aware of that. That awareness is enough to overcome the pain. Then you will use only the learning from the incident, you will drop the 'feeling bad' part.
Goal :
To cause the child to take individual responsibility to separate Ego from Pain
Part 2: Pain - Lessons 3 to 5_English_part_2.md
Assessment:
- v What are ways we invite pain into our lives?
- v What are the 3 different types of pain? (Emotional, mental, physical).
- v Why do we have rules?
- v How can we help each other to follow the rules?
- v When we live in an unhealthy manner, what happens?
- v How do we celebrate pain?
- v How can we rid ourselves of ego in order to live happily and without mental pain?
- v What are friends for?
We can use pain to transform areas of our life in which we experience a lack and transform those very areas into joy and abundance can hold the ice cube for a long time. Conclusion:
Printing Material Needed:
Paper, bubble wrap paper, poster colors
Procedure
---- Give each child the materials needed and explain to the children that they have to apply the poster color on the bubble wrap paper and print it on the paper.
Interpretation:
Pain is the impression of our thoughts; it depicts the nature of our thoughts. When we have lots of negative thoughts we create more pain when we remain with positive thoughts we create more joy.
MATERIALS NEEDED Ice Cube
Preparation:
Explain that each child will be given an ice cube, which they must hold for as long as they can.
Presentation:
Give each child an ice cube and ask them to hold it for as long as they can.
Interpretation:
If the child focuses on the pain, he can hold the ice cube for a long time. Note: If the child is experiencing more pain or not wanting to touch the ice, they can be relieved from doing this activity.
