Prologue
Pain can be physical, mental or emotional. Physical pain is a basic necessity for the body. Just imagine, if we could feel no pain in our body we might accidentally hurt ourselves or start styling our faces, hands, and legs the way we style our hair today!
Actually, pain is a letter of request, written by the body to the mind, saying, 'Please pay attention to me!' because attention is energy. When attention is given to a particular area, that attention becomes energy for that area. When the body communicates pain, it is actually asking for attention or energy, which will help it heal. Mental or emotional pain is the psychological feeling that arises when you are faced with something you don't like.
Research shows that emotional pain can deeply disturb the physical body. For example, the psychological feelings that arise with sexual repression can result in lower back disorders, or the pain of shouldering too much responsibility can cause pain in the shoulders. Whether the pain is physical or emotional, an important thing you need to understand is that pain is always born from resistance to the present moment.
What Is Pain Body ?
Every time we experience pain, it leaves behind some residual feeling that remains stuck in the body. This accumulated pain creates a negative energy field around us, which we call the 'pain body '. The pain body not only stores, but also starts reproducing many different kinds of pains. Again and again, we share what we create. That's why if wealth is created out of a pain body, we transfer the pain body along with the wealth to the next generation. Wealth should be created just out of a relaxed and blissful mood. Then the wealth can be enjoyed by the person you pass it on to.
The pain body constantly attracts the same kind of people and situations that make you feel hurt. By the very law of nature, you attract similar situations in your life. What you think, you create in your life as reality. So the more pain you harbor, the more pain you attract.
Body?
Allowing the pain body inside you is like allowing the ghost to live inside you. You will not know why you are doing what you are doing. Otherwise, why will you steal in your own house and destroy your future? Pain body takes away your intelligence. Pain drains your brain. Your pain drains your brain, and trains your heart to be in more pain.
The Law Of Life Regarding Pain
Pain cannot be driven out of your system by attending to one part of you. If you have knee pain you attend to that, it will become stomach pain. If you have stomach pain, you give medicine and do what you want, it will become neck pain. If you drive that also out, it will become back pain. If you drive that also out, it will become a headache. pain cannot be attended to partially. That is the law of life.
The Science Of Pain Existing In The Body
Any attempt to attend to the pain partially leads to more and more powerlessness. For example, For some people, first they try to give medicine to the stomach pain; then when it becomes a back pain, they try to give medicine for that; then it moves to neck pain, then they give medicine for that; after two-three years, they start living with the pain! They start living with the pain! It is now almost like they are experienced; pain becomes their life and experience.
What Happens To One When The Existence Of Pain Becomes Immune To Their Body?
If you settle with pain, you age in such a bad way, pulling, pushing, and dragging .Completing with pain; you will age very gracefully. Completion with the pain body is one of the basic requirement for any adult.
What Happens When There Are Incompletions In Your Pain Body?
When there is incompletion in your pain body, continuously you will be so agitated, the whole day you will be running here & there, literally like a headless chicken.
Completing with the pain bodies is almost like completing with all the wounds you created while you started living with incompletions. Because of the root, leaves grow, because of the root patterns, pain grows. You have to complete the root and complete the leaves. Your words are the seeds which puts more and more incompletion in others. So, you have to complete even with that.
Understanding about pain and cause of pain is the only way of conquering pain. Conquering means to have or not to have, create or not to create, to inflict or not to inflict on somebody. If you master all these 6 dimension only then it is called as conquering. Otherwise it cant be called as conquering. Conquer pain through Understanding.
15th Sutra, 2nd Chapter
Parinaama Tapa samskara dukhaihi guna vrutti virodhath cha dukham eva sarvam vivekinaha
to the discriminating viveki, naha all is as it where is painful because everything brings pain either as consequence or of anticipation of laws of happiness or of fresh craving arising out of happiness and also because of gunas contradicting one another
Patanjali says everything is painful for an intelligent person. Why? If you have a painful especially, fear it will come again, so it is pain. Even if you have a pleasure especially, fear that you may lose it, or craving you may need it again & again creates pain. Apart from that, all these 3 gunas are constantly fighting. Patanjali almost gives you a powerful method of stopping your mind. He is not saying get depressed. No. All Patanjali is saying is stop the hope.
Be hopeless the only way to hope. Be hopeless that is the ultimate that can happen in you. Always all hopes lead u to hopelessness. Because by nature, hope leads you to hopelessness. No other way.
Everything brings pain – Vivekananda says as consequence or anticipation of loss of happiness. Pain is pain. Even if you have joy, fear of losing or craving to have it more & more it will bring pain. If you have pain, it is pain. If you have pleasure, either fear or craving is pain. If nothing happens also, these 3 gunas (attributes) sitting inside will be fighting with each other. That is also pain. Then what to do?.
Swamiji says: "the ultimate life is when you are just hopeless. Completely hopeless. Stay always in bottom, then nobody can push you!"
Do not cling to life because life is suffering. That is what Buddha means when he says life is suffering. The 1st step to start spiritual journey is be hopeless. Everything will create joy in you.

Introduction
There have been recorded instances of 'phantom pain' which is pain in a part of the body that does not exist. Once in the Second World War, a soldier's leg had to be amputated because it was badly damaged. The strange thing was that when he became conscious again he was still complaining about the pain in the leg. He was covered with a blanket so he had no idea that the leg had been removed. The blanket was removed and he was shown that his leg was not there anymore. He was shocked! Further research then showed that each part of the body is related to a certain part of the brain.
When a certain part of the body feels pain, the corresponding brain center shows activity. In this case, the related brain center was still vibrating in the same way it was vibrating when the leg was a part of the body. There are many such instances of people who feel pain in the empty space where their limbs were amputated. This is called 'phantom pain'.
Goal :
To distinguish ' phantom pain' and take responsibility to make it disappear.
