Prologue: What Is Guilt?
In our life we are neither taught nor allowed to have the confidence that you have an intelligence in you. Always you are given only guilt.
Only if you live with the guilt, you can be easily exploited. The society which is created based on power and politics, the social systems which is created by shathriyas and vaishyas, means , business people and politicians, naturally will create, naturally will have techniques only to keep people in guilt.
The personality which you are carrying which creates guilt in you, that is a pure lie.
This idea of guilt, idea of confession, all these things are cunning, subtle way to exploit human beings. It's a very cunning, subtle way to keep people under the control.
Guilt is the worst killer of intelligence. Guilt will never let you move in your life.
What Is Guilt?
Understand anger, guilt is nothing but, you not waiting for the - not having the patience till the transformation in you happens.
You don't trust the transformation is possible in you. You don't have patience for the transformation to happen in you.
There will be a deep sense of guilt in you because it is the same mind which is working. You use strong words when you are in anger and once the anger dies down, the same sharpness which is emitted is turned inwards to create a deep guilt. The height of the anger and the depth of the guilt are equal. If the height increases, the depth increases as well.
The more you remember the negative decisions or your mistakes, the more you create a guilt. One thing you should understand, guilt will again and again attract the same bad instances in our life. Its like pain will attract the pain. Money will attract the money. Joy will attract the joy.
When we measure ourselves as a low person, when we create a deep guilt in ourselves
All your fear, all your greed, all your guilt, all these things are just because your energy taken away by the past memory
How To Overcome Guilt?
Trusting you can have transformation, transformation will happen in you, removes the guilt from you.
The past is dead. Not only it is dead; it is a dead weight on your being. As long as you have guilt, you can never proceed; you can never have deep blissful life. Be very clear, you can never be moral based on guilt. If you are based on guilt, all your morality is skin deep
People ask me, 'Swamiji, what is this? You are pulling down the whole social structure. Then how can we all live morally?' I tell them, clear, it is only for kids that you need a forced morality. For them you need to say, 'Keep quiet, I will give you candy.' Of course, nowadays kids reply, need your candy. Who cares for your candy!' For a child you can say that you will give candy and restrict him. You based on fear or greed. But for you, it is time to grow up. You are not kids anymore. Just stand up with consciousness.
Why You Should Overcome Guilt?
Don't try to escape from your being. Whatever it is, whether it is guilt, low mood or depression, or whatever is reality, face it. Let us see. Who else can face if you are not ready to face it? If you don't want to be with your being, nobody else will want to be with you. So, be very clear, only you face the reality of your being; you will be able to be with yourself. So, you have to face. You have to be with the reality. You have to seek the truth. Whether today or tomorrow,
The moment you express your anger, your guilt also will be released. Actually, anger and guilt are two sides of the same coin. They are two different kinds of the same coin. Anger is the wonderful way to release guilt. The moment you become angry with the person who created guilt in you, you will come out of guilt.
How Is Guilt Created?
By constantly remembering your past mistakes you will only create guilt, you will not develop yourself.
There are so many things goes on in your life, so many mistakes you do in your life; remembering those mistakes are no way going to make you rich, it's only going to create more and more guilt, that is no way going to help you. But by un-clutching from your past memories, you will assimilate the essence, experience of the mistakes.
We Alway S H A V E G U I Lt A B O U T O U R S E Lv E S . W E Don'T Respect Ourselves
We have some idea about how life should be, and we try to recreate or reproduce our imagination into reality. When we are not able to, we create a guilt. It goes on and on. It is a vicious circle.
You don't have enough energy because all your emotional energy is taken away by the past incidents or the people who are in your memory, either as attachment or anger or as guilt. Your whole energy, inner space is occupied.
The Negative Consequence Of Guilt
Guilt is like a rock. It blocks the flow; creates a whirlpool. Creates energy block. Any guilt you carry in your being is a blockage of energy. Just like a blood clot, it is an energy clot. All the voices, which are inside your mind, are the root for guilt. Any guilt will kill your intelligence. As along as you flow like a river, like a stream, you will be expressing extraordinary intelligence in your life. You will express a different kind of intelligence; a different kind of energy; a different kind of bliss. The moment you start creating guilt in you, the moment you are stopped in your free flow, you create energy clot inside your being; you create energy clot inside your mind. Especially, the older your culture, more is the guilt.
Most of the time, your energy gets blocked based on your guilt. You have psychological illness because of your guilt. If you look deep, wherever you have fear, wherever you are not able to move, wherever you are not able to take decision, there will be some guilt.
How Do You Guilt Others?
Whenever you cannot make other understand what you are telling, you leave others with guilt.
Only when you cannot understand, you will not be able to make others understand…
Guilt, The Sure Killer Of Intelligence
Making metaphysical into physical is creating morality out of understanding. As long as they are understandings, they are nectar for your life. They create a tremendous intelligence in your life. The moment they are reduced to a superstitious belief, the moment they are reduced as a morality, they create deep guilt in you. And guilt is the sure killer of intelligence.
W H Y Y O U S H O U L D Not Have Guilt?
Guilt will kill you when you are alive. Look little deep. What is the root cause of guilt? It is our idea about right and wrong. Our understanding about what is right and wrong. Only from that, the guilt starts.
As Long As Morality Is Given To You Like A Spoon-Feeding, Not With An Understanding, You Create Two Things;
- You try your best to escape from it. 2) You create a deep guilt inside your being.
When you are given some rules based on the greed and fear, you start creating a deep guilt in you.
W H At Y O U D I D N ' T Know About Guilt
One deep thing you should understand! Guilt is the root for greed! As long as you have guilt, you can never enjoy anything.
How To Know If You Are Out Of Guilt?
When you get a certain guilt - the idea you have done something wrong, your skin glow drastically reduces! That is what in our tradition we mention again & again if this sin comes to you, you will lose your grace - means that shining of that skin will disappear, the aura will disappear. When people come out of guilt, their skin starts shining!
Guilt: The Real Killer Of Consciousness
When you have desires you have guilt as well. Guilt is the opposite face of desire. Sometimes you feel guilty about desiring something because you feel it is not right to desire it. Other times you feel guilty when your desires are fulfilled because you feel you are not deserving of what you receive. When your desires do not come true you feel guilty because you feel you have not done what you ought to have. Desires invariably lead to guilt
Guilt is nothing but your past decisions and actions being reviewed with your updated intelligence.
For example you might have said a few mean things to one of your friends when you were younger which caused hurt to your friend. Now, few years later, with the intelligence that you have, is it right to review that incident and feel guilty? No! At that time you had only that much intelligence, so you behaved in that fashion. Now, you have updated intelligence. It doesn't make sense to review the past with your present intelligence.
Now if you constantly think about the past and feel guilty, you destroy your present and your future too. Nothing can be done about it,so guilt is useless. What can you do? All that you can do is not repeat the same pattern again, that's all. At that time with whatever intelligence you had, you acted, that's all.
The past is always past, it is always dead. That is why it is called past. Yet we always let the past affect us. How do we allow the past to affect us? In two ways:
- If you review your past incidents or decisions using the present intelligence, you will create guilt in your being. 2. If you base your present decisions on past experiences, you will be repeating the same past into the future also, maybe in a little updated fashion!
Even though you might not commit exactly the same mistake, you will be moving in the same experiential level, in the same plane. Our mind falls into a groove, a track, a mindset that forces it to do what it has always done. So we keep making the same mistakes as well.
Goals:
To make the kids aware of the topic of guilt, talk about any incident which they felt guilty.
Assessment:
- v What is guilt?
- v What is past?
- v What is desire?
- v How do desires lead to guilt?
- v Can we change the past?
- v When do you feel guilt?
- v Can you see it or smell it or touch it?
- v Why do you feel heavy when you feel guilty?
- v Why do you cry or justify when you are guilty
Reiterate the topic of pain, the importance of pain, ways to overcome pain. Conclusion:
Materials Needed:
Paper, Pen (or) Sketch (or) Pencil, Pictures
Procedure
Give each child the material required. Explain to the children that they can draw the shadow of the picture given. Encourage each one can to select the picture of their choice and draw the shadow of that picture
Interpretation:
Explain to the children that guilt is the shadow of the desires. Borrowed desires invariably lead to guilt. When we live our desires completely we will not have guilt. When we are not fully in the moment it leads to the guilt.
Activity Of The Day: Bluff Game
Here is a group game that can be played together for the representation of guilt.
Materials Needed:
A non-transparent bag and one small object (e.g.small piece of paper, button or coin.)
Presentation
1.Gather the class in a circle and sit. Explain the topic and the game. 2. Take the bag and show the object that will be hidden inside. 3.One person will get to put their hand in the bag. They can either take the object or pretend to take it. They remove their hand with their fist closed and place it behind their back. They have to do this such that no one can see if they have taken the object or not. Everyone takes turns to do the same.
4.Now each person takes turn to guess who has the object in their hand. 5.Watch the facial expression of the people
Conclusion:
All others will find it easy to point fingers randomly at someone they think has the object. The person who has the object would find it difficult to point fingers at someone else because they know they have the object. That is guilt!
Introduction
Guilt is actually the shadow of the ego. When somebody says something and you become angry, it is the ego, your idea about yourself, that causes the anger. But right after, you start feeling guilty about losing your temper. Now, too, it is the same ego that causes the guilt. It gives you the feeling that you could have done differently to change the situation, but you did not do it. This is the dilemma.
The ego creates the problem and the same ego goes on harboring guilt. If you understand this game of the ego, you can simply drop the guilt. Without only awareness, you will neither get unduly angry nor will you suffer for it. Because of the awareness, you will not be blinded with anger. You will get angry only to the extent required and automatically there will not be any guilt either!
If you have made a mistake there are two ways to treat it. One is to feel guilty. If you feel guilty, you will commit the same mistake again. Guilt is the way to commit the same mistake again because you forget the mistake and start focusing on the guilt. If you focus on the mistake, you will know how and where you went wrong and so you will not repeat it. If you focus on the guilt, you will not even analyze how and where you went wrong, so you are still very much capable of making the same mistake again!
Goal :
To make them aware of how ego manifests as guilt, how being happy is itself associated with feelings of guilt.
Assessment:
- v Have you felt guilty about something?
- v How will you feel when you do something wrong and others find out?
- v How does the ego get bigger with guilt?
- v How is ego related to guilt?
- v What happens when we make a big mistake for the first time?
- v Why do we cover up our mistake?
- v Can you feel happy when you feel guilty?
- v Can you feel guilt without thinking about the past?
- v Have you ever felt guilty of being happy?
Conclude the topic by reviewing the important details. Drop ego and feel the happiness without the guilt. Conclusion:
Materials Needed:
Paper, Pen (or) Sketch
Procedure
Give each child the materials needed. Explain to the children about disease. Encourage each child to draw what they understood by disease. Each child will get a turn to explain what they have drawn about disease.
Interpretation:
Pain is caused by multiple factors.Guilt creates a dent in our inner space, Guilt makes us feel inferior. Explain to the children guilt in long run leads to diseases. Guilt affects us psychologically which leads to diseases
Part 2: Guilt - Lessons 1 to 3_English_part_2.md
Materials Needed:
Empty bucket. Plate or lid (large enough to cover the bucket) Water.
Presentation:
1.Discuss guilt and how it affects us. Ask for some examples of guilt and what it means.
- Take a bucket and instruct the children to pour the water into the bucket. 3. Each child will get a turn to pour water into the bucket. Then you exhibit the lid and close the bucket with the lid.
Inference:
Explain to the children we fill the bucket of our mind with all guilty emotions and close the bucket with a big lid; we will not share our emotions with anybody. Sharing is the only way to re-live the incident ,so share the guilt with others be aware of it, and never repeat the same mistake again.
Conclusion:
Our body is not able to receive inputs and feel free if we are suffering from guilt. It is like the guilt has closed the entry points of our energy
Topic Of Discussion:
Write down ten things which went wrong in your life
Explanation:
Each child is asked to write down a list of ten things which went wrong in their life. For example, each child can write about their worst experiences like 1.How did my favorite toy break? 2.My best friend went to an another school 3.My birthday dress got torn 4. I tripped dancing on the stage
Workshop Of The Day: Guilt
Ask everybody to tell what they felt during that particular movement. What are the patterns created, how life has happened to them? This activity gives them an opportunity to relive that particular incident. This helps them to be aware of the thoughts which lead them to the negative things in life. Inference:
Introduction
The three main contributors to Guilt are: 1. Guilt created by immediate family. 2. Guilt created by social laws.
- Guilt created by ourselves. Guilt created by immediate family: Parents tell us that we should respect their wishes, if we are not able to follow their instructions we feel guilty of making them unhappy. Family sows the first guilt in us that passes on from generation to generation.
Children love to twirl but parents instill the fear in the child that they might fall and get hurt because of tumbling. 'No' by the mother actually has a deep impact on the child. It creates guilt in the child. If the mother says 'No' for playing in the rain and jumping, the child forces himself to stay in, or if he goes out without telling his parents, he will feel guilty, he will be afraid that somebody might spot him. As the child grows, this deep ingrained sense of guilt will actually settle inside him. Small incidents like this collect and make guilt your natural way of life. For example when you pour milk if mother shouts at you, learn from this incident to be more careful and aware.
Guilt Created By The Society:
From seven to fourteen, society creates guilt in you through its rules. The guilt based on fear is created by social laws. Follow rules by understanding. Society instils in you the feeling that you are not enough unto yourself. It makes you feel guilty of what you are and what you do. The guilty person can never be at ease with himself. He will always lack self confidence. This is where society steps in and exploits him. Society functions on your guilt, the more you feel guilty, the more society becomes powerful.
Guilt created by you (ourselves): The guilt sown in you by family and society grows roots inside you. Then you start creating guilt for yourself without any reason. The guilt created by family and the guilt created by the society are imposed guilt. They are like a crown that is passed on from one generation to another. But the third guilt is the one which we create for ourselves. When you internalize guilt based 'on greed and fear' , you create new types of guilt for yourself
Goals:
Make the children aware of different types of guilt.
Assessment:
- v Name the three kinds of guilt?
- v How will you feel when not allowed to do things you like the most?
- v What happens when we point at somebody for mistakes?
- v Can we change the past?
- v Can a guilty person be at ease?
- v How do we feel when somebody blames us for the mistakes that we didn't do?
- v Have you felt guilty on any occasion? How did you overcome the guilty feeling? Can a person be happy and guilty at the same time?
Guilt is a manifestation of ego. We have to remember when we point at somebody for some mistakes we have to understand only one finger points at them the other three fingers points at us. Conclusion:
Materials Needed:
Paper, Pen (or) Sketch pen, Picture of disaster
Procedure
Give each child the material needed. Encourage each child to view pictures of disasters like cyclones, tsunamis and floods and draw that on the paper. Each child will get a turn to explain what they have drawn.
Interpretation:
Guilt corrupts our inner space. Guilt is a disaster caused either by our family, or by ourselves or by society. Guilty persons can never be at ease, He can never enjoy life as he is never fulfilled.
Salt, Water, Container, Spoon. Activity of the day: Dissolve salt in water This activity illustrates Ego, Guilt and Love; The water is love, and the salt is Guilt. The way to be in bliss is to dissolve the Guilt in the water of love
Materials needed:
Presentation
- Gather the class and discuss the topic. 2. Show them the materials that illustrate the concept. The salt is ego, and the water is love. Ask them what will happen when we add salt to the water? - It dissolves. In the same manner we can dissolve our ego by using love. 3. Demonstrate the activity and show them how proud and white the guilt is on its own, but when added to the water, it dissolves. Love overcomes guilt 4. Each child can add a bit of salt and stir it into the water watching it dissolve.
Conclusion:
Loving and forgiving can overcome negative effects and guilt will disappear.
Social Conditioning Results In Guilt
When your social conditioning opposes the flow of your nature beyond certain limit the conflict which starts, results in guilt and which leads to frustration and finally depression
