Introduction And Meditation

The third layer is the manomaya kosha – the mental layer. It is the layer where your constant inner chatter goes on inside you. The inner chatter is nothing but the constant formation of words that happen in you, that don't bear any significance to anything. It is just a flow of words to do with irrelevant association of things, that's all. This constant flow is what we call 'worry'. If a person does not have a clean manomaya kosha, that is, if he is disturbed in the mind, sits as a leader, he can ruin the entire place where he is seated.

The manomaya kosha is the centre of all the five koshas. Not only is it in the middle as we know it, but even otherwise, this manomaya kosha can be called as a base of all the five koshas.

From manomaya, you can penetrate or work on all the other four koshas. Among the seven chakras, the ajna chakra is the chakra raja or the king of all chakras. In the seven layers, the nirvanic layer is considered to be the ultimate. In the same way, in the five koshas, the manomaya kosha is the ultimate one,

not even the anandamaya kosha or bliss layer. This is because, after the manomaya kosha, things are involuntary and not under your control. Whatever you can do, you can do it only up to the manomaya kosha.

We will work on this manomaya step by step. It will be a longer process than for the first two layers. The meditation process for the manomaya kosha itself is very simple. It is actually just humming. Intense humming itself will break the inner chatter.

When you hum, put your complete awareness on the humming. It helps you to silence the mind. Our inner chatter is created around the navel area. When we hum intensely, such that we feel the vibration of the humming right below our navel, we stop this process of continuous inner chatter. It is like shaking the whole thing up. So the humming should happen from below the navel.

Humming lets you feel your body as energy. The moment you start humming, you start feeling light, as if you are floating. You don't feel the heaviness in the body, because humming matches the vibrations of the mind with the vibrations of the body. Body and mind become harmonious. You start experiencing yourself as energy.

But you have to start at the annamaya kosha to enter into the manomaya kosha! It means that we have to start from square one. So now, you have to go through all the meditations you did earlier, because you slept last night. When I say you slept, I mean that you have fallen below the vignanamaya kosha, between the vignanamaya and anandamaya koshas. So now, you can't directly touch the manomaya. You have to go through the
