Mind is an action. Stop it!

People ask me, 'How do I stop the mind? How do I go beyond the mind?' Wherever I go, there are at least ten people who put this question to me.

I tell them, mind is not a thing to be fought with. Mind is not a thing to suppress or destroy. Mind is an ACTION.

Just imagine that you are walking. If you don't want to walk, what do you do? You just sit. Let us say you are talking. If you don't want to talk, what do you do? You become silent. In the same way, mind also is an action. If you don't want to think, don't do it, that's all!

But the mind says, 'No, no, no, I have tried many things, I have tried many times…' I sympathize with your trying. I am not disrespecting you.

But please understand, mind is a simple subtle action. You are doing it. Is there anybody else doing it inside? No. So when you don't want it, just stop, that's all!

If you say, 'No, no, I have tried; after some time it comes back,' be very clear: it means you wanted it to start again. That is why it started. But you forget that you started it again - that is the problem.

Please understand: when you want, you can switch it off; when you want, you can start it. If it has started, it means you wanted it again. If you understand this, you will have respect for your decision, for your will.

We are fed with so many poisonous thoughts about the mind. Relax from everything. Understand this simple thing: mind is an action. Just like walking is your action, talking is your action, mind is an action.

When you can stop walking and talking, why not thinking? It is your action. Decide this moment: it is my action; let me stop, that's all!

Let us take the whole responsibility upon us. If you are sitting now, do you ask yourself, 'What happened to my walking? I was walking ten minutes earlier.' You don't ask because you know that by deciding to sit, you stopped walking. In the same way, you can use your mind when needed. You can switch if off when not needed.
